In-Home ABA Therapy for Children with Autism

Helping Children Thrive in Their Home Environment

Daily routines are full of learning opportunities. In-home ABA therapy helps children build communication, follow routines, and manage behavior during real activities like meals, play, and transitions. Children learn best in the places they know. That’s why Arluna offers BCBA-led, one-to-one ABA therapy in the home, delivered through a neurodiversity-affirming, assent-based approach that emphasizes engagement, respect, and responsiveness to each child’s needs and readiness to learn.

Why Families Choose In-Home Therapy

Families often prefer In-home ABA therapy because it allows children to learn and practice skills in the place where they spend most of their time. Working in the comfort of home helps build communication, behavior, and daily living skills in real situations like play, mealtimes, routines, and transitions. Therapy is directly connected to the routines and expectations families experience throughout the day.

What is ABA Therapy?

ABA therapy helps children with autism develop skills across key areas including communication and language, social interaction, emotional regulation, behavior management, play, learning readiness, and independence. Each skill is taught in small steps and practiced through structured, real-world learning opportunities.

Children practice these skills through a combination of play, guided activities, and daily experiences across home, school, and community settings. This includes working on communication, participating in play, following directions, managing emotions, and building early learning and school readiness skills.

Parents are also able to observe sessions and take part in them. This makes it easier to carry strategies into the rest of the day and keep progress consistent.

Frequently Asked Questions

ABA therapy at home allows your child and their therapist to focus on developing skills that are integrated into their home environment and daily routines. We can focus on challenges like doing chores and participating in family routines in addition to standard therapy skills.  At Arluna we believe in doing therapy in the places where life happens.

Your child’s therapy plan will be based on their needs. Some children may need full-time care, while others may benefit from a few hours a week.

Sessions are designed to fit naturally into your family’s schedule, without the need to travel or commute to a clinic. This makes it easier to build therapy into the parts of your day that are already happening, rather than adding extra time or appointments across town.

Depending on your child’s age and goals, therapy may also take place in community settings such as parks, stores, or other real-world environments. This helps children practice skills where they will actually use them, supporting greater independence and confidence in daily life.

A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) completes an initial assessment and creates an individualized treatment plan based on your child’s needs. A Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) then provides one-to-one therapy, while the BCBA oversees progress and adjusts the plan over time.

Sessions focus on communication, daily routines, social skills, emotional regulation, and behavior support through structured activities and play. Parents also receive guidance and coaching to support progress at home.

To get started, complete a secure intake form and a member of our team will reach out with next steps.

When therapy takes place at home, parents or a caregiver must be present, however you do not need to participate in the session. While the therapy itself is one-on-one, working on family interactions and empowering parents to support the work being done is critical.

Good news: ABA therapy is covered by most major insurance plans due to federal and state mandates for children with a formal autism diagnosis. Coverage can vary by plan, but our team handles the process for you, including verifying benefits, obtaining prior authorizations, and explaining any out-of-pocket costs before services begin.

You can view the insurance plans we currently accept on our homepage. If you don’t see your plan listed, reach out! Our team is always adding new partners and is happy to check your coverage.

Every child’s needs are different. A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) determines recommended hours after a comprehensive assessment of your child’s goals, strengths, and areas of need.

In general, focused ABA may range from about 10–20 hours per week for specific skill areas or targeted goals, while comprehensive ABA may range from about 20–30 hours per week for broader developmental support. These recommendations are regularly reviewed and adjusted as your child makes progress, with the goal of reducing hours over time when appropriate.
